Living Dead Adult Costume: Lindsay Takes a Walk
I’ll never forget that Halloween night 5 years ago or the Living Dead Adult Costume that this story is based on. I can still remember the smell of the bonfire on the beach mixed with the smell of the salty ocean breeze.
Lindsay was every ones favorite person. She was bubbly, energetic and the best cheerleader the squad had ever had.
We didn’t realize then that someone was really jealous of everything Lindsay was, everything that Lindsay had. She was the new girl in town and had been at our school for about 6 months. We thought everyone loved her…we couldn’t have been more wrong.
Lindsay and Tabitha had decided separately of course to wear Living Dead Adult Costumes for the Halloween beach blast. Until Lindsay came along Tabitha had been the most popular girl in school and a shoo in for homecoming queen. That night all of that had changed.
Tabitha found out that Lindsay was wearing the same Living Dead Adult Costume she had planned to wear and that Lindsay had got the nomination for homecoming queen. Still, Tabitha seemed to take it good naturedly, offering to wear another costume and congratulating Lindsay on the nomination. They were great friends we thought….again we were wrong.
As I said that night on the beach is one I will never forget. Lindsay wasn’t a drinker but for some reason was drinking that night. She looked so gorgeous dancing around with her costume and jet black hair blowing in the sharp breeze that most of us guys couldn’t take our eyes off of her. Her costume was made of a tattered black material with a grey overlay to it. It honestly looked like she had just risen from the grave to join us at our party. She had a pair of holey black tights on and high heel shoes that most girls would have broken their necks in.
About half way through the party she took the shoes off but still looked amazing in her Living Dead Adult Costume. To this day no one was quite sure when Lindsay and Tabitha disappeared from the party. If anyone did notice it would have been pretty common place. The girls were always running off together.
It wasn’t until the party was winding down that we all became concerned. We formed search parties as well as we could in our teenage drunken stupors, many of us not even taking their being gone seriously. I can still remember the sound of the waves crashing against the jagged rocks of the cliffs that my best friend and I were sent to search. I will always remember the sight of Tabitha standing at the cliffs edge with the tattered grey overlay clutched in her hand. She didn’t respond to our questions about where Lindsay was. She just pointed down and said,” Now I’ll be homecoming queen,” over and over again.
I was afraid to look where Tabitha pointed and when I finally did I wished I hadn’t. At the bottom of the cliff caught on the jagged rocks was Lindsay with her Living Dead Adult Costume floating in the water around her.
